Who to help.
One of the thousands of boys and girls from the countryside that
live in the Andean mountains, who are deprived of opportunity.
They are boys and girls over eight years old. All of them live with
their parent(s) and siblings in very poor households in the countryside.
Their daily diet consists of a thick drink prepared with chocolate or milk and
“machica” (toasted and powdered barley) for breakfast, and a soup prepared with potato, cabbage and pasta for lunch and dinner.
Most of the parents (both fathers and mothers) work on the
land, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For this reason many
of the children already know how to cook at 8 years of age.
Some of these children have to wash their own clothes and most of the
houses don’t have a bathroom. The children go to school in the morning and work in their houses in the afternoon, taking care of their younger siblings and feeding the animals (guinea pigs, rabbits
and hens).
